Blues & Classic Rock Soloing Masterclass

With Pete Friesen

A full day of learning and playing with Pete Friesen, deep-diving into Blues/Rock soloing. We will be based in our own custom built studio.

Milk Shed Studios, RG42 6AN, UK

Fully booked

Wanna learn how to play great blues rock solos?

This is a great opportunity to get your guitar out and jam in our own custom built studio with Pete Friesen; one of rock guitar’s great players!

We will start the day by learning a handful of iconic and genre defining licks and phrases, relating them back to the chords they are played over to see which intervals and scales are commonly used. Each of these licks will contain transferrable techniques we can use later in the day.

What You Can Expect:

  • How to bend properly and use hammer-ons, pull-offs and grace notes effectively to create smooth and flowing runs and phrases.
  • We’ll look at the phrasing and common licks of some top players from this genre, and then look at how to effectively transfer those ideas to your own solos.
  • You’ll get some 1 to 1 feedback from Pete on specific things you can work on to improve your solos.
  • We’ll look at three different feels and tempos, discussing what type of licks we would use to solo over them.
  • We will finish off with the students creating their own solo over a prescribed backing track to play for the class, with more feedback from Pete

Pete’s Biography:

Pete started playing guitar for Alice Cooper in 1989 on a world tour to North America, UK, Europe, Japan and Australia.  A live DVD was recorded at the Birmingham NEC. Pete went on to do the European tour of Alice’s next album “Hey Stoopid”, also appearing alongside Alice in the movie “Wayne’s World”.

Pete then joined the rock band The Almighty, releasing 3 albums. The band toured extensively throughout the UK, Europe, North and South America, Australia and Japan. In 1997 Pete returned to Alice Cooper’s band to do several more tours. A live DVD from the “Brutal Planet” tour was recorded at Hammersmith Apollo and released in 2000.

In the summer of 2000 Pete played a string of summer festival dates with Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson’s solo band. In 2014 Pete played guitar in the Ray Davies/ Kinks musical “Sunny Afternoon”.

Pete has been teaching guitar for many years and is a long time friend of the team at Guitar Breaks. We love him and we know you will too!
